Canadian Orthopaedic Association Basic Science Course Stains

Digital Resources

Lecture material has been organized in digital format and is provided on CD-ROM. The course content represents the handout material from the lecturers. Some of the handout material represents excellent material provided by lecturers from earlier years. Combined with the experience of the lectures, this format is a powerful learning resource that allows the user to review at leisure the lecture material. A picture, as the saying goes, is worth a thousand words. The CD-ROM contains thousands of images that reinforce the written text.

Dr K. Shekitka and Dr T. Smallman developed in 2000 a second feature that is added to the CD, a Mini-Atlas of Pathology. This objective of this CD is to reproduce the experience of the laboratory portion of the Course. Approximately 600 digital images cover the spectrum of orthopaedic pathology linked in webpage format and juxtaposed with explanatory text. The contents of the Atlas will be partially reviewed during the clinical case seminar sessions, and can be reviewed at leisure by the participant on his or her return home. Sequentially reviewing the Atlas slide material will give the participant an excellent overview of normal histology, and the pathology of the categories of disease that affect the musculoskeletal system.

You will optimize your educational experience if you bring a multi-media capable laptop with you to the course.
